Dr Andy Shea is Associate Professor of Building Physics in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Bath, UK. He has over 20 years’ experience in the design and development of sustainable buildings bridging professional practice, research, and teaching. For more than ten years he was a member of the Building Research Establishment Centre for Innovative Construction Materials (BRE CICM) conducting research on a wide range of natural materials for use as building insulation materials, including straw, hemp, sisal, and many more.
Andy’s main research interests and experience span a range of building environmental performance themes primarily the thermal performance of building materials and building energy simulation modelling. He has strong links to industry and works closely with designers and manufacturers engaged in the development of high-performance natural building materials for use in construction. Andy is currently co-director of the University of Bath’s Digital Net Zero energy systems lab. He is Editor-in-Chief of the international journal of Building Services Engineering Research and Technology.
